The Leone Blanket – design is based on Sierra Leone's 1000 Leone banknote. Sierra Leone is a corruption of the Portuguese "Serra da Leoa" or "Lioness Mountains," the name Portuguese explorer Pedro de Sintra gave to the hills surrounding the harbor in the capital city of Freetown. The hourglass symbols at the bottom of the blanket which are an ancient West African symbol of marriage and unity.
